ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Cornell is ready for the government shutdown.

In a statement released on Tuesday, university leaders say the Ivy League school has backup plans in place across all campuses to handle potential disruptions.

“Students who receive federal financial aid or Veterans Affairs benefits should not face any immediate impact. Depending on the duration of the shutdown, employees or students seeking visa renewals may experience delays, and we are seeking further clarity on potential impacts.”

Cornell officials add they’re not expecting an immediate impact on operations. “Cornell leaders are monitoring developments closely and working to minimize disruptions to academic work, research, studies, and travel plans. If the shutdown proceeds, the university will share updates to the community when appropriate.”

At midnight, a partial federal government shutdown began as Democrats and Republicans in Washington remain far apart on spending.
