Tompkins County Legislature passes property tax exemption for older residents

ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Property taxes are being lowered for some older residents in Tompkins County. 

It was introduced by Legislator Christy Bianconi, who spoke before last evening’s vote.

The exemption for seniors on a fixed income increases from 50 to 65 percent. Despite initial reservations, Legislator Judith Hubbard expressed support by examining some numbers.

The resolution was approved 15-1, with Legislator Dan Wakeman being the single dissenting vote.
