ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Health officials seek information about a dog bite in Ithaca.

On Tuesday, Dec. 16, a cross-country skier was bitten around 2 p.m. in a Cornell-owned field south of Hanshaw Road and west of Freese Road.

The biting dog was one of two described as large and black, possibly Burmese mountain dogs. The owner appeared to be a white woman in a large parka-style coat, and the non-biting dog’s name is Nova. The person who was bitten did not realize the bite had broken skin, so the two did not exchange contact information.

The Tompkins County Whole Health Department (TCWH) wants to confirm the dogs’ vaccination status to rule out rabies exposure. Anyone with information is asked to contact the TCWH Environmental Health Division at (607) 274-6688.
