OWEGO, NY (607NewsNow) — Tioga County Public Health is getting a grant.

The Community Foundation of South Central New York has awarded the department $5,000 for the county’s child passenger safety program.

“Correct car seat installation and use are critical to preventing serious injuries and deaths among children involved in motor vehicle crashes. Through Tioga County Public Health’s Child Passenger Safety Program, certified child passenger safety technicians (CPSTs) work with parents and caregivers to ensure children are properly restrained based on their age, height, and weight. The program provides car seat checks, education on proper installation and use, and assistance for income-eligible families who need child safety seats.”

Officials say the grant will strengthen their efforts to keep children safe.
