LANSING, NY (607NewsNow) – There will be four seats available on the Lansing Central School District’s Board of Education in the upcoming election.

On March 23, three of the board’s nine members, Kate Cole, Ami Stallone, and John Stevens, formally resigned their positions.

A special meeting has been called for Friday, March 27, to appoint former board members to fill the vacancies. According to the district, the move will help ensure continuity in governance and ongoing support for students, staff, and families. The appointed members will bring familiarity with the district and experience in the budget process.

“While it’s unfortunate that recent events brought moments of discord and disruption to district processes and procedures, I am uplifted by the continued support and shared focus on what matters most, our students, our schools, and our Lansing community,” said LCSD Superintendent Chris Pettograsso. “We remain grounded in our core belief of partnership and connection, knowing that strong relationships are essential to student success.”

Board President Aziza Benson and Vice President Matt Bogumil issued the following statement:

We thank Kate Cole, Ami Stallone, and John Stevens for their service to the Lansing Central School District and to public education. As a board, we remain focused on our students and our responsibility to move this work forward. We are committed to developing a school budget that reflects our district’s mission and values, while recognizing the challenges facing our community and proceeding with strong fiscal responsibility and due diligence.

Three of the four available seats in the upcoming election will be for terms running July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2029. One seat will begin immediately following the May 19 budget and election vote and will serve through June 30, 2027.

Anyone interested in running is encouraged to call the District Clerk for more information at (607) 533-3020, ext. 4000.
