SUNY Cortland to break ground on new residence hall this summer

CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) – SUNY Cortland is getting a residence hall.

The new housing unit is slated for construction near the school’s Professional Studies Building off Tompkins Street.

It will be Cortland’s first new dorm since 2013 and feature 220 beds for apartment-style living. Officials are billing it as an alternative to the West Campus Apartments, which will eventually be phased out for regular use. Once the project is complete, the West Campus Apartments will be used for alternative housing during dorm renovations on the main campus.

Additionally, the project will add a new parking lot near the softball team’s Dragon Field, which will net 110 new parking spaces.

Construction is expected to begin in August 2026 and finish in time for the Fall 2028 semester.
