ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Cornell mourns the loss of a student.

On September 19, freshman Joselyn Garcia was found dead in her dorm room.

University officials say the Brooklyn-native was a first-generation student and part of the school’s inaugural First at Cornell Program, an all-expenses-paid pre-orientation initiative designed to ease the transition to college.

Garcia intended to major in biology and pursue a career in dentistry.

According to the Ithaca Voice, her death may have been alcohol related.
