DRYDEN, NY (607NewsNow) — New York State is funding over $38 million in infrastructure projects.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Thursday the funding of 49 projects through the County Infrastructure Grant Program, which launched in Nov. 2024.

Five projects in Central NY are receiving money, including $1 million in Cortland County.

• Village of Homer – This project includes the installation of vital infrastructure required to support the creation of a 36-unit residential housing development in the village. Funding will support the Arbor Brook Flats Development Infrastructure project on Dee Street. Improvements will be made to electrical infrastructure and roadway access through paving, top-coating, apron installation, and new LED lighting. Water system improvements will be funded as well via the Newton Water Works Water Storage Tank project, to enhance water system capacity and reliability to serve the development and ensure adequate water service for current and future residents and businesses.

The Southern Tier is also getting a chunk of funding: $1 million in Tompkins County and $500,000 in Tioga County.

• Town of Dryden – Funding will be used to completely overhaul the utility infrastructure at Hanshaw Village, a 132-unit manufactured home community. This critical grant will allow for the conversion of the park’s aging infrastructure from an inadequate private well system to a robust public water connection. The project scope includes the installation of new water mains and sewer lines to replace failing private systems, permanently eliminating long-term public health and environmental risks that threatened the community’s habitability. This complete structural upgrade establishes a reliable, modern utility framework for the existing 110 households. The newly expanded infrastructure provides the necessary utility capacity and structural hookups to unlock sites for at least 10 new affordable manufactured homes, and the potential for 22 new homes on previously vacant lots, for immediate residential development.
  
• Town of Owego – Funding for this project will be used to expand public sewer lines to an 86-acre residentially zoned site with the intent to reliably serve future housing. By replacing inadequate private septic systems with a robust municipal connection, the project successfully eliminates the primary physical barrier to residential development on this land, allowing for the future construction of a 25-lot single-family subdivision.

“Investing in infrastructure means investing in New York’s future,” Hochul said. “With $38 million being awarded to 49 different projects across the state, we are giving local governments the tools they need to thrive and expand opportunities for New Yorkers. These investments will help communities build the infrastructure they need to create more housing, attract new businesses and make New York’s communities stronger and more affordable.”

This round of funding will support the construction of over 3,200 new homes, according to a news release.
