GROTON, NY (607NewsNow) — The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office says a stolen vehicle has been recovered.

Around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, “deputies from the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office were handling an unrelated incident when a deputy observed a suspiciously parked vehicle on School Street in the Town of Groton,” Sheriff Derek Osborne said.

Deputies checked the registration on the 2026 Chevrolet U-Haul and learned it had been reported stolen in Syracuse.

“Deputies subsequently located the individual in possession of the vehicle in a nearby apartment and identified him as Lewis J. Tearney, age 47, of McLean, NY,” Osborne stated.

Tearney was charged with 1 felony count of criminal possession of stolen property. He was arraigned on the charge this morning.
