Memorial Day services planned across Tompkins County

ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Memorial Day is approaching across the country, and in Tompkins County, services are planned.

Tompkins County Veterans Services Director JR Clairborne says it’s important to remember what the holiday is about.

Clairborne adds that the sacrifice of service members extends beyond themselves, and Memorial Day is about those people too.

On Monday, services and celebrations are happening in Ithaca, Danby, Dryden, Trumansburg, Groton, and Newfield.

  • In Ithaca, a Memorial Day Ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. at DeWitt Park.
  • In Danby, the Taps Across America Ceremony begins at 12 p.m. at Danby Town Hall.
  • In Dryden, a parade begins at 10:30 a.m., with a ceremony set for 11 a.m. at the Village Green.
  • In Trumansburg, a parade begins at 10 a.m., which will end with a ceremony at St. James Cemetery.
  • In Groton, services begin at 9 a.m. at Graves Memorial, with multiple stops and ceremonies before a final gathering at the American Legion.
  • In Newfield, services begin at 10 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery.
