Ithaca auto shop seeks new signage

ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — A vehicle maintenance shop in Ithaca is looking to update its signage.

Steve Shannon Tire & Auto on West State Street still features branding from a previous business. Applicant Wendy Kern thinks it’s time for a transformation.

“Steve Shannon purchased the property that was Trombley Tire,” she said. “Basically, what they’re looking to do is replace all of the existing signs with new signs that will identify the new name.”

Ithaca’s Board of Zoning Appeals is hesitant to grant approval because of the total number of proposed signs. Board member Michael Cannon believes an abundance of branding is unnecessary.

“You can really drive by this one-way on West State Street,” he said. “You don’t need a sign facing the Jungle.”

The board will revisit the request at a future meeting.
