AUBURN, NY (607NewsNow) – An inmate death in the Cayuga County Jail is under investigation.

On February 5, Andre Denman was found unresponsive in his cell just before 4 a.m. during a routine check.

According to Sheriff Brian Schenck, the 43-year-old was given immediate medical care and transported to Auburn Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. In a statement on February 18, Sheriff Schenck condemned social media rumors and urged the public to await facts of the investigation before speculating.

The Sheriff’s Office is awaiting autopsy and toxicology results from the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the State Attorney General’s Office is conducting an independent investigation, as required by law.
