ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – The Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC) is getting a financial boost for an expansion project in 2026.

On December 5, Governor Hochul announced that the Ithaca programming group is receiving a $1.32 million grant through the NY BRICKS program.

The money will be used to support the construction of a new community and learning center at the former Red and White Café, which GIAC purchased in 2023. The transformation will help provide future employment, kitchen, and cooking education opportunities for local youth. The grant builds on additional funding GIAC received for the project last year.

It’s part of over $100 million heading to 30 projects in 22 counties across the state.

“NY BRICKS grants will create affordable and accessible spaces where kids can play, families can connect, and seniors can stay active and engaged,” Hochul said. “I’m proud to see this funding reach 30 communities, and I look forward to seeing these centers come to life.”
