ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Filmmaker Shira Evergreen is looking to raise $8,000 to finish editing and release a documentary about Ithaca’s public art.

The documentary follows Ithaca’s journey from having fewer than 15 murals to having 400 and counting within the last decade. With behind-the-scenes footage of murals created in Ithaca, the feature-length documentary looks into the strategy of a small group of activists to increase the amount of public art in Ithaca.

“This longer format will enable me to tell the story in a much deeper way, to connect threads, and to fully explore how public art is both a mirror reflecting culture and a canvas on which artists can project a better future,” said Evergreen, who has made over 30 short films about murals in Ithaca.

The Cornell Film and English ’02 grad hopes the documentary will draw more tourists and artists to the area and boost the local economy in Tompkins County. Once the film is completed, Evergreen hopes to host a public premiere of the documentary.
