TRUXTON, NY (607NewsNow) – Access is improving at the Labrador Hollow Unique Area in Cortland County.

On May 28, the DEC announced a parking lot expansion project at Tinker Falls in Truxton.

It will increase capacity in the main lot from 20 to approximately 45 cars. Officials say it will help minimize overflow parking at the increasingly visited spot.

“Tinker Falls is a beautiful, easily accessible hiking spot that has grown significantly in popularity,” DEC’s Region 7 Regional Forester Chris Sprague said. “Oftentimes on busy days, the main lot at Tinker Falls will fill, and cars park on the shoulder of Route 91, creating a potentially dangerous situation. This expansion will improve access and safety for everyone enjoying the waterfall and hiking trails.”

Work is underway and is expected to last up to three weeks. The main lot will remain closed for the duration of the work. Visitors can use the auxiliary lot located about 100 yards south of the main lot on Route 91 or the Labrador Hollow Unique Area main lot on Labrador Crossroad. The falls is just a short hike on the Skyline Trail from the Labrador lot.
