ORANGE, NY (607NewsNow) – An investigation into illegal dumping in Schuyler County is closed.

On March 11, a DEC officer on patrol in the Town of Orange discovered a large pile of garbage blocking a roadway in Sugar Hill State Forest.

The officer contacted a Forest Ranger to handle any State land offenses. The two worked together to clear a path on the road and search the pile for any investigative leads. They determined a local hauler dumped approximately 16,000 pounds of trash after failing to ascend a hill due to the truck’s weight.

Both the hauler and the Town of Orange Highway Department returned to clean up and properly dispose of the waste. According to the DEC, all documented charges associated with the case are being “handled through an administrative order.”

Neither the charges nor the identity of the hauler was released.
