CORTLAND, NY (CortacaToday) – The Cortland Police Department says a social media post making the rounds locally is a hoax.
The post warns residents to be cautious about a man named Terry Greys, who has been allegedly knocking on doors pretending to be homeless, assaulting people with a knife, and stealing cars.
It mentions Cortland County specifically, however, police say a simple reverse image search of the mugshot shows it is a legitimate crime, only it happened in the United Kingdom. Other searches show the picture has been used in numerous posts with a different town, city, or county location.
Cortland PD asks residents not to share the post.
