Cortland man charged with rape, endangering the welfare of a child

HOMER, NY (607NewsNow) – A Cortland man is facing sexual misconduct charges in Homer.

On July 16, deputies with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office arrested Shawn Hapgood following a 7-month investigation into allegations of sexual abuse.

The 40-year-old Hapgood is accused of subjecting someone under 17 to inappropriate sexual contact in Homer multiple times between 2024 and 2025. Hapgood is charged with three counts of felony rape, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and two counts of unlawfully dealing with a child.

Hapgood was remanded to Cortland County Jail on $500 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear in Homer Town Court on August 4.
