ELMIRA, NY (607NewsNow) – The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of one of its own.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, the sheriff’s office paid tribute to K9 Eiger, who passed away from several medical issues. The 13-year-old German Shepard was assigned to handlers Lieutenant Dave Padgett and Sergeant Pat Pirozzolo during his career. The sheriff’s office says he “served the citizens of Chemung County courageously and effectively preventing dangerous narcotics and other illegal drugs from reaching the streets.”
