CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — Damage to a Cortland business is minimal after a fire.

Chief Wayne Friedman says a pickup truck was ablaze around 11:30 p.m. Sunday near the back of Bill Bros Dairy & Farm Market on Port Watson St. Firefighters who went inside the building found smoke with flames behind some coolers.

“The quick response from station #2 and deliberate actions of the firefighters on duty prevented this fire from causing significant damage to the store,” Friedman said.

The fire’s cause remains under investigation. Friedman says the pickup truck is a total loss.

According to a news release from the Cortland Fire Department, “the owners of the building had already contacted an electrician to evaluate any electrical issues to make sure that all the appliances within the building were still functioning. It is expected that there will be very little down time for the operation of the store.”
