Canisteo woman charged with misusing food stamps, welfare fraud

CANISTEO, NY (607NewsNow) — A Steuben County woman is accused of welfare fraud. 

Sheriff Jim Allard says Melissa Aldrich failed to report income between Jan. 1 to June 15, 2024, and allowed someone to use her EBT card. The 36-year-old, who lives in Canisteo, allegedly received over $2,900 in benefits to which she was not entitled.

Aldrich was arrested Tuesday, May 5 on charges of welfare fraud, misuse of food stamps, and grand larceny.
