ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Asteri Ithaca is facing fines.
On April 9, the Tompkins County Board of Health voted to adopt a resolution enforcing a $40,000 penalty to the apartment building owners for violations and complaints dating back to last summer.
Asteri has until April 30 to comply with the Health Commissioner’s orders, which include implementation of a solid waste plan and the addition of security, cleaning, and maintenance staff.
Plan Summary
- Asteri must provide sufficient, professional security, cleaning, and maintenance staff
- Asteri must provide adequate and accessible containers for collecting refuse, with plans for proper maintenance
- Asteri must provide prompt attention to the cleaning and removal of biohazards and refuse
- Asteri must implement a variety of systems and measures for enhanced building safety and security
Tompkins County Whole Health’s (TCWH) Environmental Health Division will resume frequent, routine inspections on May 1, and Asteri could face additional fines for any subsequent violations. If violations are found, TCWH will pursue a penalty of $2ooo per violation, per day, as well as an additional $9,000 penalty, which was deferred from the original enforcement action.
