ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Local law enforcement is getting a boost in state funding.
Governor Hochul has announced that $127 million has been included in the fiscal year 2025 budget for nearly 400 police departments and sheriff’s offices outside New York City. The money will be used to add new technology and equipment including license plate readers, mobile and fixed camera systems, computer-aided dispatch systems, software, unmanned aerial vehicles, gunshot detection devices, and smart equipment for patrol vehicles and police officers.
Officials say more than half of the funding statewide will go to license plate readers, body-worn and patrol equipment, and public safety camera systems.
Five agencies in Tompkins County are receiving funding to incorporate new tech and equipment.

- Trumansburg Police – $90,249
- Dryden Police – $56,000
- Cayuga Heights Police – $67,900
