ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Several local first responders, a 9-1-1 dispatcher, and an agency have received regional recognition.

The Central New York Emergency Medical Services (CNYEMS) Regional Council held its annual awards earlier this week in Syracuse. Five awards were given to providers and an agency in Tompkins County.

Emily Dove, of the Ithaca Fire Department and Trumansburg EMS, was named the ALS (Advanced Life Support) Provider of the Year.

Matt Whitaker, of the Groton Fire Department, was named the BLS (Basic Life Support) Provider of the Year.

Traci Lisi, of Bangs Ambulance and Lansing Fire Department, was named Educator of the Year.

Brian Synder, of Trumansburg EMS, was given the Dr. Michael Jastremski Award of Excellence.

Trumansburg EMS was named Agency of the Year.

“Each of these winners was acknowledged for their dedication and contributions to the pre-hospital setting,” said EMS Manager for Tompkins County Emergency Response Joe Milliman. “I am incredibly proud of each and every one and honored to call them colleagues.”

Additionally, Travis Collins, a dispatcher with Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response and Dryden Ambulance, was selected as the 2023 APCO Atlantic Chapter Dispatcher of the Year.
