The state’s casino location board has moved forward with new bidding from developers for a license in the Southern Tier.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo asked the board and commission in December to consider awarding a fourth license for a site in the Southern Tier.
Laura Nahmias with Capital New York says the board will only consider proposals that promise real job growth and economic development.
They made it very clear that if a new license is going to be awarded in the Southern Tier at all, the bids would have to be substantially better than the two that were passed over,” Nahmias said. “They would have to be improved markedly, almost wildly different from what had been originally submitted to even be considered.”
Tioga Downs over Jeff Gural told Nahmias he does not plan to make major changes to his original proposal.
Gural and other advocates for a casino criticized the board when it passed over two proposals for the Southern Tier.
