ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — The founder of Zero Waste Ithaca opposes a proposed sports facility at Cornell.

Yayoi Koizumi does not want the university to build a new fieldhouse. She’s concerned about possible environmental impacts.

“It is crucial for the Town Board to disapprove Cornell University’s new plan for additional turf installations,” she says. “Failing to do so could potentially lead to more artificial turfs to proliferate across town and the city of Ithaca, and beyond.”

The facility would be named after former university trustee Peter Meinig.

Former Ithaca Alderperson Patrick Mehler recently told the Cornell Chronicle the fieldhouse would help students stay physically engaged.
