ALBANY, N.Y. (WHCU) — Nearly 90-percent of New Yorkers describe crime as a “serious problem.”

According to Don Levy, director of the Siena College Research Institute, 87-percent of people who responded to the poll say crime in New York is a serious problem. The new poll also shows 61-percent of people are afraid of becoming crime victims, and over half have shown concern about their safety in public places.

In the same poll, 31-percent of people upstate say they’ve purchased home security cameras and 9-percent have purchased a gun.
