SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WHCU) — Onondaga County’s sheriff is suing the Legislature.

NewsChannel 9 in Syracuse reports legislators are considering a plan to merge the Jamesville Correctional Facility with the Onondaga County Justice Center, which Sheriff Toby Shelley strongly opposed.

Shelley, who’s been sheriff since January, filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Onondaga County and the Legislature over the potential prison closure and merge. Shelley says the vote should be public, not in the legislature.

Legislators voted nine to eight in favor of closing the Jamesville jail.
