ELMIRA, N.Y. (WHCU) — A Chemung County investigator, critically injured while pursuing two Ithaca suspects last month, is now beginning rehab.

Authorities say Mike Theetge suffered a severe head injury when he was thrown from the hood of a car at the Target in Big Flats. Sheriff Bill Schrom says Theetge’s road to recovery will be a long one. Theetge was transferred to a rehab center in Rochester.

The two Ithaca suspects were arrested.

In a related story, the Ithaca Police Benevolent Association is hosting a breakfast benefit for Theetge on April 28 at the Brooktondale Volunteer Fire Company.
