Benefit for State Theatre of Ithaca to happen in May

ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – The State Theatre of Ithaca is having a benefit concert next month.

The first Benefit My State Variety Hour will raise funds for the venue, which has struggled financially since the pandemic. Officials for the not-for-profit theatre say “the reality is the cost of running and maintaining this beautiful theatre greatly exceeds income from ticket sales, sponsorships, and rental income.” In January, the State joined a coalition of historic theaters in New York to encourage lawmakers to dedicate funding to their operations.

The night will feature performances from Sam Nelson of X Ambassadors, Richie Stearns & Friends, Galumpha, Ithaca Ballet Company, Running to Places Theatre Company, Amy Dickinson, the Community Unity Music Education Program, and more. All the money raised will go directly to the State Theatre of Ithaca.

The show happens Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Advance tickets go on sale Friday, April 14, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.
